Vandalur zoo located at vandalur, chennai, Tamil Nadu is one of the biggest zoos in India. It has got vast reserves of land dedicated for conservation of animals. Apart from the zoo it has a lion’s safari, a place for nocturnal animals, reptiles and birds section. Easy access to vandalur is get a train to tambaram and when you step out of the station there are many buses waiting to pick you up.
The tickets to the zoo are pretty cheap around 20 Rs for adults and 10Rs for kids. There is a TNDC canteen when u enter the zoo, apart from that there is one more canteen on the way but very hard to find it, so plan your food items well. I appreciate the government which has taken green initiative in and around the zoo. They have appointed officials who collect all your food items, check and remove plastic items, wrap it in the newspapers and give them back. Also there are battery operated trains which will function only for 5 to 6 trips, so the sooner you go the sooner you get a chance to grab tickets. Alternatively there is cyclewala who gives cycle for rents; I preferred this as you have more time to look around the zoo. The zoo is so big that you would not be able to see all of them by walk.
